GOETHE-INSTITUT presents WESTERN (FST)
“War is war. Life is life. You can’t lump them together,”

The latest film by talented filmmaker Valeska Grisebach was launched this year at Cannes in the section Un Certain Regard. A group of German workers at a rural Bulgarian construction site are faced with their prejudice and mistrust of the locals due to language barriers and cultural differences. The stage is quickly set for a showdown.

“The film’s unpainterly style reflects an ambivalent attitude toward the story’s capitalistic pro-growth machinations.”
-Slant

“A naturalistic, almost documentary-like feature that slowly builds.”
