The Brazil Film Fest is proud to present one of Brazil’s entries to the Oscars: NEIGHBORING SOUNDS by Kleber Mendoça Filho, which was named one of the 10 best films of the year by the New York Times.
Documentaries are an important part of Brazilian cinema. Here are some gems for our Montreal public: Set against the turbulent atmosphere of the 1960s, TROPICÁLIA is a feature length documentary exploring the Brazilian artistic movement known as tropicália, and the struggle its artists endured to protect their right to freely express their revolutionary thoughts against the traditional Brazilian music of the time. MARGARET MEE AND THE MOON FLOWER is about the life and work of botanical illustrator Margaret Mee, a pioneer and a visionary, one of the most important artists of the Twentieth century. Through her diaries, interviews and narratives, the film follows the tireless advocate for the preservation of Brazilian flora, whose love of nature and whose art provide a constant reminder of the need to preserve our environment.
For kids and the whole family, we present the fantastic film TAINÁ –THE AMAZON LEGEND, which tells the story of Tainá, a 5 year old Indian orphan who dreams of becoming a warrior and discovering her true origin. More and more animated films have come to match the level of quality of live action feature films, The Brazilian animated film RIO 2096: A STORY OF LOVE AND FURY is a perfect example in which the hero of the film lives through the most significant moments in Brazil’s history. It is a love story between an immortal hero and Janaína, the woman he has been in love with for 600 years.
