OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE OF ASSOCIATION DES PROPRIÉTAIRES DE CINÉMAS DU QUÉBEC
Terrebonne, March 13, 2020 - For immediate release
The health and safety of its clients and staff is a priority for the directors of member cinemas of the Association des propriétaires de cinémas du Québec. Following the announcement by the Government of Quebec on March 12, 2020 concerning the cancellation of public events of more than 250 people, the APCQ wishes to reassure and inform the public that all of its members' theatres meet the maximum recommended capacities to date, and confirms that film screenings are maintained at their establishments. In order to ensure additional comfort for customers, each cinema has implemented measures to reduce the number of seats available per representation.
All cinemas did not wait and already applied strict hygiene and safety measures. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have also asked our members to pay particular attention to the following actions for cinemas' staff;
• Although already very common, increasing the rate of handwashing with soap or disinfectant gel;
• Continuous cleaning of common areas, bathrooms, movie seats, payment terminals, doors, ramps, service counters, sinks, troughs, flushes and any other work or public surfaces;
• Organization of schedules and queue lines to limit the number of people at the same location in the theatre;
• Restrictions on staff level. If a team member has flu-like symptoms, has been around someone from abroad or has been tested positively, they will stay at home and see a doctor if necessary;
• Remember to cough or sneeze in your elbow and use one-time handkerchiefs;
Some of our members who offered reserved seating in their rooms, have suspended that service to allow their clients to choose their seating in the room based on available seats. Other cinemas have introduced measures to encourage card payment, thus avoiding the handling of bills or coins.
We also rely on public collaboration to demonstrate civic sense. If a person has symptoms of the disease - fever, cough or sore throat - or has recently taken a trip abroad, we appeal to your good conscience to refrain him/her from visiting us.
The Association des propriétaires de cinémas du Québec (APCQ) is an association of cinema owners or administrators representing 47 cinemas located in 43 cities throughout Quebec. It promotes the theatre industry, provides services to its members, including prevention, training and seminars, and ensures consistent representation in the community.

To our audience,
Like all of you, we are closely monitoring the impact of COVID-19 in Canada, and we have been following events in our community in particular. While the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the current public health risk associated with Covid-19 as low, we continue to monitor for developments very closely. The safety and well-being of our audience and staff is our top priority.
Following the most recent requests from the provincial government regarding the spread of COVID-19, we want to confirm that the cinema remains open for the moment. However, a number of additional measures have been implemented, including:
- Decrease the capacity of our cinemas room to fewer than required by the authorities.
- Organization of schedules and queues in order to limit and better regulate the flow of the audience.
- Disinfection of surfaces frequently touched by customers, including entrance doors, ramps, service counter, credit card payment devices, POS terminals sinks, flushes and watering troughs, after each representation.
- Restrictions on staff level. If a member of our team has flu-like symptoms or has been around someone from abroad or has been tested positively, they will stay at home and see a doctor if necessary.
- Although already very frequent, we will increase the rate of employees handwashing in the service.
► The website remains the only reliable source regarding the schedule.
Notices to our audience:
- If you have a fever, cough or sore throat, please do not come to the cinema.
We are monitoring the situation very closely and we will adjust as necessary to the demands of the authorities. Our priority will remain the health of the public and our team.
