La mer entre nous (STF)
Fifteen years of bloody civil war have left deep marks on Lebanon’s politics and society. More than 25 years after the war’s end, the capital, Beirut, is still fraught with tension. Filmmaker Marlene Edoyan follows two women, members of the same generation who apparently have nothing in common. Hayat and Wafaa, one Muslim and the other Christian, live in a place where Hezbollah and the Phalange are well-established political parties, and where nearby conflicts only stir up bad memories. Is reconciliation possible in a city carved up by invisible borders? In masterful direct cinema style, the filmmaker observes ideologies through the often-ignored prism of women’s perspectives.

Cinéspectacle: Classiques à la demande
The program of this concert was entirely chosen by the public of the orchestra by vote!

Echoing Mozart, the overture to Rossini's opera-bouffe Le Barbier de Séville is, like Les Noces de Figaro, inspired by Beaumarchais' comedy.

One of Rimsky-Korsakov's most famous works, the Sheherazade suite, a monument to oriental influences, is inspired by episodes from The Arabian Nights. "The story of Prince Kalender" allows one to appreciate all the richness of the orchestra's sound!

Jacques Hétu is one of the most prolific composers in Quebec and one of the most frequently performed composers abroad. After its world premiere in 1971, his Third Symphony was recorded by the Nouvel orchestre philharmonique de Radio-France.

Improvising pianist and composer, the "jazz symphonist" George Gershwin was only 26 years old when he premiered his Rhapsody in Blue in New York. Performed here by Quebec pianist Jean-Philippe Sylvestre, the work is full of dazzling virtuosity and irresistible themes.

Champions (STF)
Champions is a documentary in which the director follows the quests of his autistic brother Stéphane and his atypical friend Audrey. Born with an intellectual difference, Stéphane and Audrey want to prove to the world that they too can win medals. They found a passion in athletics competitions at the provincial and national levels and have now set their sights on the international stage. For three intense years marked by training and two championships, we follow them until the end of their ambitious dream, that of competing at the Special Olympics World Games in Dubai. Intertwining both the sports odyssey and the human portrait, this feel-good documentary offers an immersion into a fascinating world where athletes with an “intellectual difference” are at the forefront.
