In 2016, when the Colombian government and the FARC were coming close to sign a peace agreement, Germán Gutiérrez started filming in one of the last camps of the guerrilla in the mountains. Most of the ex-combatants he met were Afro-Colombians, Indigenous and poor campesinos, many of them women. He decided that it was with them that he would make his film, tell their personal stories, some that the leaders of the FARC may not be happy to hear, and some a large part of Colombian society may not be willing to accept.
For 6 years, he was at the forefront of a crucial historical period which would end with the election of Gustavo Petro, a former M-19 guerrilla, as president of Colombia.

Whether you’re a fan of Pink Floyd or not, chances are you know exactly what the album covers of The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here look like. But you might not be familiar with the creative duo behind those iconic images: Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey “Po” Powell, aka the innovative design studio Hipgnosis. Hipgnosius went from making covers for their mates (the likes of David Gilmour and Syd Barrett) to establishing themselves as the driving force behind visual identities of some of the most popular artists of the 1970s (think Led Zeppelin and Paul McCartney). Their methods were unconventional, their budgets often unreasonable, but they were fearless visionaries who artfully manipulated photographic images long before computer graphics became ubiquitous.

LES NUITS DE LA 4 e DIMENSION Presents A “CARTE BLANCHE” TO SIMON BOISVERT
Hosted by the filmmaker, producer, screenwriter and actor! At the dawn of a new millennium, an unknown young man dared to brave winds and tides in order to take a chance at filmmaking. Having nothing but his motivation, he made against all odds a first self-funded feature movie. The newcomer doesn’t know it yet, but he is already working on a style that will become his signature. With STÉPHANIE, NATHALIE, CAROLINE ET VINCENT (2001), the author begins a cynical exploration of human nature that expends with the films that follow. The tensions between men and women have no secrets for him. His writing is always sharp. His reputation is incomparable. Today in 2023, no one in Quebec makes films like Simon Boisvert!
Les nuits de la 4e dimension is honored to pay a well-deserved tribute to a fiercely independent artist. Join us for a celebration of a visionary director that forever changed the imagination of VHS lovers. On this occasion, we asked Simon Boisvert to choose himself a title of his filmography. He has decided to screen 40 IS THE NEW 20 (2009), a wonderful satire of workplace that puts THE OFFICE to shame.
Twenty years after their breakup, Gary and Jenn meet again thanks to a turn of events. She is looking for love. He still has feelings for her. Now working together for the same company, will they manage to conciliate the X with the Y? Wonderfully anachronic, 40 IS THE NEW 20 is filled with shameful dialogues coming from picturesque characters (Bruce Dinsmore is amazing as Boisvert’s double). This suburban melodrama has to be seen to be believed.
Simon Boisvert will attend this historical screening at Cinéma du Parc and answer all your questions during a memorableQ&A few surprises are also on the menu. Be there or be square!
